Hi, How are you?! Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate the time.

Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day and the Start of Lent

I’m not as Christian as what I should be or even probably enough to join in with these holidays, but I do. first I will explain a little about all the days

What is Pancake Day?
Pancake Day ( also known as Shrove Tuesday) is the last day before the period which Christians call Lent. It is traditional on this day to eat pancakes. copyright of projectbritain.com

Why are Pancakes eaten on Shrove Tuesday?
Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren’t allowed in Lent. Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent.

What is Shrove Tuesday?
Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration as well as penitence, because it’s the last day before Lent. Throughout the United Kingdom, and in other countries too, people indulge themselves on foods that traditionally aren’t allowed during Lent. Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent.

What is Lent
Lent, in some Christian denominations, is the forty-day-long liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter. The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert, where according to the Bible he endured temptation by Satan. Different churches calculate the forty days differently. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer—through prayer, penitence, almsgiving and self-denial—for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Tonight I will make some pancakes, and enjoy them! Pancakes in the UK are very different to USA, well maybe not THAT different but they are smaller and you eat them with lemon and sugar.

Pancake Recipe
220g/8oz plain flour,
sifted pinch of salt
2 eggs 1 pint of milk
50g/2oz butter Sift the floor,

add the 2 eggs into the middle and slowly poor in the milk, heat up the butter and add to the mixture, let sit for 30 min. than cook in a super hot pan… Normally you would roll them up to eat.

as for lent, I plan on giving up chocolate I did it last year, I understand its not a big thing to give up but for me and the amount of chocolate I eat… its probably a good thing to do so…
